Episode Title: Come Fly With Me

The show definitely doesn't shy away from real conversations. In this episode, Gloria and Alex have a heart-to-heart girl talk, because Alex can't talk to her mom about these sort of things because she'll freak out. Gloria lets Alex ask her anything on a girls' day trip (like how many guys Gloria has slept with). Alex later confesses to Gloria she doesn't want a dress because she doesn't want to look like Haley (let the sibling rivalry commence). Claire was making Alex get a dress for a wedding, so naturally Alex hated that idea.

Then, of course, when she comes back home and Claire comes around and says Alex doesn't need to wear a dress (to a wedding they're going to), Alex is happy to inform her she already bought a dress. There's definitely some rebelliousness in all the kids from time to time. Ironically, Alex doesn't think she does, which is just perfect for someone like Claire to deal with. For fictional characters, the writers did an incredible job of developing relationships and characteristics that pass on from parents to children.

Meanwhile, Phil convinces Jay to bring him along for a demo of his RC airplane, but Jay "accidentally" flies a plane right into Phil's face. This turns into an inner healing session for Jay, who has to say he likes both Phil and Cam. It was just as painful for Jay. Jay is one of these old-school reserved grizzly men who doesn't feel the need to use a lot of words to express his feelings, especially towards Phil and Cam. So it's hilarious when he has to share a big group hug.

Cam and Mitch have the classic "Country Bumpkin v. City Slicker" rivalry that society can't seem to get enough of. Each role gets mocked when in its counterpart's natural element. In this episode, however, I find it ironic that, when they go to the Price Club (the giant warehouse-style grocery store), Cam is the one who knows what's going on, while Mitch is amazed that such a type of store would exist. The funniest thing, though, is the fact that Mitch wanted to get in and out of the store since Cam only needed one item. Of course, Cam decides to buy other items, because obviously you'd be foolish not to get more while you're there. This is me and my wife to the T. The level of my irritability exponentially rises, and my complaints-per-minute average skyrockets the longer we're in a store.

Notes

Favorite lines:

-When Phil uses baseball euphemisms to threaten Dylan into behaving properly with Haley. As the great Jerry Seinfeld once said, why is baseball so conducive to that sort of talk?

-When Gloria makes the helicopter sound because she can't remember the word helicopter.

-"Try not to talk. I want to make sure nothing's broken." ~ Jay, when checking his plane (not Phil).

Favorite moments:

-When Luke is jumping on the trampoline with a box on his head. And no pants. Classic Luke.

-When Jay makes Phil hold the hula hoop to fly the plane through it, only for it to crash in Phil's face.
