FINAL THOUGHTS: My wife and I tied on correct picks, then tied on our tiebreaker method (which was based on what we WANTED to win). Overall, the show was good. It was quickly paced. There were actually good messages throughout the speeches and introductions. Some of the winners were as excited as I've seen winners be in recent years, which was refreshing.

The wife: I think not having a host really hurt. It wasn't as entertaining as usual. It was just "All right, next award." Also, I'm so, so happy that Green Book won!

10:15 - WOOHOO! Hooray Green Book! My wife and I both are happy to have gotten that prediction wrong. That movie was so stinking good. What a great choice! If you haven't seen it, GO WATCH IT.

10:09 - Yeah man, Alfonso did a superb job with Roma. He did so much of the talking and messaging beyond the dialogue. It was a true masterpiece that takes appreciation of film making and storytelling to understand. Good speech. I think it'll win Best Picture, too. Let's find out....

10:03 - THE WIFE: I loved Colman's speech. She seemed so genuine and didn't have the attitude that she expected to win.

10:00 - The best choice for Best Actress by far. I was afraid Lady Gaga might sneak in and steal that one, but The Academy made the right choice. She was fun to watch. Some of the other performances were kind of boring, honestly.

9:56 - This girl's dress is the trashiest one of the night.

9:44 - This is a BIG WIN. Rami Malek was GREAT. Way to go Academy for recognizing such a performance. I know Christian Bale was the favorite, but I truly feel like Malek was the better performer this year. The wife is not happy with this one at all and completely disagrees. As a side note, most of the chosen clips were terrible representations of their performances.

9:40 - I feel like Allison Janney is always presenting something...

9:31 - The "In Memoriam" segment has become one of my favorite of the Oscar's the last several years. It's so awesome that The Academy highlights those who left an impact on such an incredible industry. Remembering people like Burt Reynolds and Stan Lee (two of the names I knew best) in such honoring fashion is touching.

9:29 - No question Lady Gaga deserved that award (and Cooper deserves a lot of the credit, too). Little skiddish on her speech, but forgivable when considering all the emotions.

9:27 - YOU ALL know you just said "Wakanda Forever" and did the X sign when Chadwick Boseman just walked out.

9:17 - Also SO GLAD Spike Lee got his Oscar for Klansman. Great script, great movie, great message! His speech is a little choppy, which is disappointing, but he told a great story. I may only think of him as "Spikey Poo" from now on.

9:16 - SO GLAD Green Book won Best Screenplay. I love it. Such a charming movie. Also, I'm glad we don't have to hear Adam McKay now.

9:09 - I've never even heard of this movie Skin, but seeing the joy and genuine excitement and shock from these people is awesome. I may find time to watch that one at some point.

9:05 - Shallow is a crazy good song. Cooper and Gaga will win that Oscar for sure.

9:01 - Okay, that was really cool how they transitioned to Cooper and Gaga playing Shallow. Well done. This is a great song for sure. Cooper deserves just as much credit as Gaga does.

8:57 - Visual Effects is such a tough category most years. I never get that one right. First Man was absolutely stunning to watch, though any of those others would've been just as deserving.

8:42 - Of course, Mike Meyers and David Carvey show up and give the best presentation of the night. The head banging to Queen music was hysterical!

8:40 - I've still been totally fine without having a host. The wife wishes there was one, though. She doesn't think the show is entertaining enough. I don't disagree; the Academy should've encouraged the presenters to be a little less stiff. She wishes Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph would come back out.

8:39 - Uh, DeNiro, Pacino, AND Pesci in "The Irishman"? YES. I'm there Day 1.

8:34 - Spider-Man was a shoe-in for Best Animated Feature. That, Mahershala's Supporting Actor award and Lady Gaga's impending Best Original Song award (Shallow) are the easiest predictions of the night.

8:30 - Hearing a scripture from the Bible? Wow, that's awesome! Thank you Pharrell!

8:25 - Without question the right choice for Supporting Actor (much to the chagrin of my wife). Mahershala was incredible in that movie. It's weird; I just watched him in "Alita: Battle Angel" as some lame bad guy. I guess it's great to have such versatility. Loved his speech, his attribution to his grandmother, all of it. Dude is fantastic.

8:22 - THE WIFE: I don't like Charlize Theron's hair. She's better as a blonde.

8:09 - Keegan Key is hilarious. I wouldn't expect him to have a better entrance than flying in with an umbrella.

8:08 - I like this Alfonso dude. Seems like a great dude...But seriously, did anyone think that Roma would NOT win Best Foreign Film? I guess technically if something else won, we'd know that Roma wouldn't win Best Picture. But it seemed so obvious.

8:02 - Definitely not as surprised Bohemian Rhapsody won for mixing. Mixing in all the original tracks and vocals with what we hear in the movie was pretty good. And usually whoever wins editing also wins mixing.

7:56 - Man, James McAvoy looks so different with hair....To me, Sound Editing was one of the toughest awards to call. I'm pretty sad First Man didn't win that, but with a movie as driven by music as Bohemian Rhapsody, I suppose it makes sense.

7:54 - Uh, why is Serena Williams here?

7:52 - Not once have I been sad that there isn't an official host.

7:48 - Jennifer Hudson must've been doing some leg workouts if she was able to walk out on stage carrying all of THAT dress. But wow, what an INCREDIBLE voice!

7:46 - Roma absolutely had the best Cinematography. And I bet this isn't the last time we see this Alfonso guy on stage. This was an incredible work of art.

7:41 - Back-to-back wins for Black Panther! Woohoo. Great emotional speech from this lady, but seriously, reading it from your phone? I guess that's where we are in society today. Also, she didn't leave the guy any time to speak, but old white men are the enemy of society anyway, right? I actually don't know this should've won this award, but it's very deserving, as well.

7:31 - Ugh, Melissa McCarthy thinks she so much funnier than she is....SO HAPPY Black Panther won that one! That was absolutely the right choice. Such great variety in that movie. And hey, English dresses and wigs don't guarantee an Oscar.

7:27 - Correction, THIS is the most awkward Oscar speech...I may not agree with a lot of things that Vice wins, but makeup is not one of them. So many incredible transformations in that movie. Well deserving of that.

7:22 And the most awkward Oscar speech goes to....Free Solo!

7:16 - Yeah, sorry Jason Momoa, not all guys are able to pull off pink, and some are still okay with that.

7:12 - Easiest call of the night for Regina King. Man, I remember seeing her when she on Fresh Prince of Bel Aire. She looks just as young now as she did then. Great career moment for her. Hopefully she gets a lead role someday to prove her full chops. Happy for her! And so glad she gave props to God! Very rare in Hollywood.

7:08 - Even without a host, we've gone straight to political jokes. At least Amy Poehler is funny right now.

7:00 - We're here watching the Oscar's! Queen is performing as we are underway. What a great way to start. Woohoo! Follow our live blog throughout the night!
